Use Card Turk to turn your organization's old, unsearchable index cards into electronic data.
Card Turk enables volunteer workers to transcribe your old index card file into usable digital data.
Volunteers access Card Turk and transcribe cards one at a time making their best effort to transcribe information on the cards into the standardized data fields that you define for the project. Have multiple card formats? No problem: you can run multiple projects to cover the different formats.
Once two volunteers transcribe key fields with the same values, a card will be considered "transcribed" and will be queued for export.
Exported data, along with their images, can be downloaded from Card Turk on an incremental basis and loaded into your electronic system.
The process of converting legacy index card files into electronic data begins with scanning the cards. There are several ways to accomplish this, and we can help you determine the best solution for your particular situation.
Once your cards are scanned, that's where Card Turk comes in. OCR, or Optical Character Recognition, is fine for transcribing paragraphs of text, but when you want to store the words on the card in a meaningful, searchable fashion, there is no substitution for manual transcription.
Of course, manual transcription of documents can be very expensive. CardTurk allows you to solicit volunteers from within your organization to "crowd source" the transcription process thereby reducing or even eliminating the cost of the manual labor.
Card Turk volunteers can either sign themselves up or can be limited to a list of people you invite. It's your choice.
Card Turk pricing is broken down into two stages: Initial Import and Ongoing Storage.
Initial Import of the cards is priced at $150/hr for the technician managing the upload of the images and working with you to define the project(s)/
Ongoing Storage starts with a base rate of $99/mo plus $1/1000 cards being stored for transcription.
